Instagram is a beautiful thing. It also makes my life a living hell through the stress of wanting to capture a moment and post it online before I can actually genuinely enjoy it. It’s absurd, but … so are a lot of things.
This time around I’m displaying some of my favorite instagram posts from the last month as well as from this month. Let’s just say that I seriously need to stop taking photographs of my food. x

This Sunday, I’ll probably be spending a great deal of my day at Delores Park for Cinco de Mayo with some friends and the rest of my fellow city celebrants. I’m certainly looking forward to celebrating such a wonderful culture with good food and good company. Also, here’s a wiki page on the holiday: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cinco_de_Mayo

“DANS LES RUES!” —translated from French to English— “On The Streets”
Today’s street style spotlight is brought to you by fellow fashion journalism student, Tavaughn (‘tay-vahn’) Bowens.
22 year old style lover and Massachusetts native recently moved to this city of bearded cyclers & good eats every two blocks to pursue his career in the fashion industry. Tavaughn chatted with me for a bit to give us a closer understanding of his style and his love for his new home. P.S. I need to buy that floral shirt.

Tavaughn is wearing a ZARA floral shirt, old JEANS he cut up into shorts, a HAT that used to belong to his grandpa’s in the late ’30s and retro REEBOK pumps. His sunglasses are BANANA REPUBLIC and leather medallion is CUSTOM MADE.

Would you say there’s a significant difference with the style on East Coast versus the West Coast? “Definitely. We get all four seasons on the East Coast, so our styles usually reflect that. Here on the West Coast, the weather is always consistent. I feel we dress more for convenience where I’m from. Its ok to be a little more experimental here!”
Has your style changed/evolved since living in San Francisco? If so, how?
“I wouldn’t say its changed, but I definitely get to venture out more and try/wear new things more so than I normally would back home. There are things that would get me ‘jumped’ (haha figuratively speaking) back home if I wore it in public. But here? That shit is almost the norm.”

Do you have a particular favorite item in your closet? “Not necessarily, but I have three pieces I wear all the time interchangeably. The first is a hat with a Super Mario graphic on the front, the second is my great grandpa’s hat from eons ago (the one on my head), and also my Motherland Medallion.”

What’s your favorite thing about living in San Francisco so far? “The freedom I get to wear whatever I want without necessarily being judged. Everybody seems to be doing their own thing here, so its ACTUALLY ok to be/look different. I like that a lot.”

Bankrupt! French indie band Phoenix’s newest album was released April 19, 2013 and has once again sparked the beloved ears of music lovers all around the world. Since 1999, this euphonious quartet have spread their musical talent from continent to continent. Especially with they’re album before Bankrupt!, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix in 2009 with popular favorites like Lisztomania, 1901 and Lasso.

Naturally, Phoenix still maintains their lovable feel good/upbeat/summer drive/harmonious character that we fell in love with from the very beginning. Personally, I feel that’s what we look for when we listen to Phoenix and they’ve undeniably kept this vibe going with this new album! Be sure to check out Bankrupt! as well as their past albums! xx

There’s always that “What am I gonna do today?” question I ask myself when I have my days off to do as I please. Today’s answer to the inevitable question was to visit the Mission district. My best friend Genesis and I scoped out some vintage boutiques down Valencia as well as indulged in our favorite taqueria’s taco happy hour. To end our little field trip of the afternoon we gratified our taste buds with lattes at Four Barrel Coffee located off 15th Street & Valencia Street. (www.fourbarrelcoffee.com)

[QUICK NOTE: During the past week, I’ve been thinking a whole lot about the direction in which I want this blog to go in. Hence why I haven’t really posted serious content in the last 7-10 days. I had an amazing epiphany the other day and I think I know what I want. As you can tell, if you’re a familiar reader (if not, then this is awkward), the layout has slightly changed and hopefully so will jesselamoda as a whole in the near future. I’ve kept the old content and it’s original post layout but things from now on will be cohesive with the new direction. Thanks for supporting and happy reading!]
(Moving right along …)

San Francisco has been having glorious weather lately which, of course, WE are all thoroughly enjoying. However, like most miraculous things like a week’s worth of sunshine in SF, today’s degree of weather was the slow transition of the city going back to it’s original semi gloomy day climate. This naturally resulted in me wearing a sweater + pants combo to get through the windy afternoon coming home from my day.
Today’s style post is basically just showing you what I wore to class today. xx

Getting really inspired by old botanical illustrations.
I love looking at old drawings especially on paper that has aged over the years.

It’s hard enough to focus on school and work when committing to jesselamoda. It’s harder when I’m even more distracted by my forever refreshing Tumblr dashboard.
Check out my other guilty pleasure, the blog that I actually “reblog” things on.

Also comment below and send me your tumblr links if you own a Tumblr baby! I’d love to see yours.

It’s always nice when your best friends make surprise visits to come visit you as well as hang out here in wonderful San Francisco. I was more than thrilled to spend quality time with Lias over lacquer and laughs.

On each hand she used the Sheer Nail Polish and the “Dance” Nail Lacquer both by American Apparel.

Thursday night at Amoeba Records, I was mesmerized and extremely lucky to have heard South Londoner songstress Jessie Ware in all her glory. Stopping in San Francisco to play a gig with her band at The Independent later that night, Jessie took a quick detour to Amoeba to give her fans just a taste of her album Devotion as a well a sample from her new EP, If You’re Never Gonna Move.

I bought her LP of Devotion and was fortunate enough to have her sign it as well.
While signing we discussed the many situations that come with having the name Jessica and all of the nicknames we naturally adopt. She decided to stick with Jessie obviously while, with the exception of my parents, I stopped being called ‘Jessie’ at a young age and just adopted Jess.
Hearing her sing, accompanied by her guitarist Joe @JoeSethNewman (Happy Birthday btw) acoustically, was so beautiful and made the songs ten times more real. You could tell how she meant each song to be sang when listening to her live.

Overall a wonderful experience that finally came after looking forward to it for months.
